Better Late Then Never...

Memorial Day Weekend...
Hubby took Thursday, & Friday off....Thursday was a quick shopping trip and then preparations for our new "babies"....

Yep - 22 baby day-old chicks...10 "meat birds" (let's not think too hard about that while they're so cute), 6 "Buff Orpingtons" and 6 "Black Rocks" (which are the cutest...they look like little penguins!)

Saturday I went yard-saling and found NOTHING...but got some much-needed alone time :)

Sunday Iz & I went to Auntie D's for a cookout (Hubby's back hurt so bad he couldn't even get out of bed)...no pics except these of Iz & S looking for critters. They found a couple millipedes and some slugs and ants but nothing too exciting.

Then Monday Auntie D found this big guy under her snowmobile trailer...awww, where was he hiding Sunday when we were there???

Monday we stayed home - whew! - and this week has been busy...but I won't update that until many many days from now...wouldn't want to improve on my brilliant procrastination technique, you know!

Been raining for 2 days now, UGH! sooooooo I'm to a SnB at K's (that's Stitch n Bitch for you non-knitters)

These Are the House Rules

1. Be Kind

2. No Pushing

3. No Hitting

4. No Whining *

5. No Screaming

6. No Running Inside

We have these posted on a wall in our living room.
Can Iz read? NO.
Does she know the House Rules? YES.
Does she follow them? Ummmm...mostly. (see footnote)
.
On a side note...found a really FUN blog yesterday...check it out!
.
On another side note...it's raining :(
and it's supposed to keep raining for 3 days...blah!

*the rule that is consistently NOT followed by Iz - EVERYTHING is a whine these days and I mean EVERYTHING! UGH! So frustrating! I can't stand whining and am trying everything I can think of to put a stop to it, but mostly I just end up yelling...bad mother? MAYBE :)

Memorial Day

According to Wikipedia :

"Memorial Day is a United States Federal Holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 25 in 2009). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the civil war), it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action."

A lot of people, including me, think of Memorial Day as the start of summer :) People go camping, BBQ (which we are doing at Auntie D's on Sunday!) and enjoy the long weekend.

However, despite all that, Memorial Day is one of 4 days a year that punch me deep in the gut and remind me that, although my life is extremely blessed, there is still a piece missing...a part of my heart that will always be broken.

Missing you this "Memorial" Day and every day....

Busy Weekend!

So, as of last Friday the 15th, I am a year older.....but I'm okay with that!

Went to a GREAT seafood place with my sisters, nephew and, of course, Iz :)

Self Portrait!
(now, I got a new haircut a couple weeks ago that I LOVE but you can't tell in this pic...
bad hair day! I'll have to try and capture the new "do" on film!)

We shared a seafood platter...clams, scallops, shrimp & haddock...YUM!

The pictures came out horrible because of bad lighting and everyone busy stuffing their face :) but I'm posting them anyway!

Then Hubby came home with chocolate cake and ice cream....my day was complete :)

Saturday morning Iz and I went to the local library for the medieval "Mini-Fair" they were having to kick off the summer reading program.

Saturday afternoon involved a trip to Home Depot to buy blocks to build my new garden :) and more lumber for the new chicken coop.

Sunday was all outside work (while getting eaten alive by the bugs)...got my garden built, though I have not transferred my seedlings yet - when I do, I'll post pics :)...and Hubby got most of the new coop built.

Hubby's taking tomorrow and Friday as vacation days so he will be home the next 5 days but we'll be busy...22 new baby chickens coming Friday! We're pretty excited about that! A cookout at Auntie D's Sunday :)

We're off to story time at the library and a bike ride at Auntie D's house!

Happy Wednesday all!

Bobcats, Turtles and Bears....Oh My!

So Iz & I met Mel & the boys at the Maine Wildlife Park yesterday...
Here's what we saw

bobcat

Perfect photo op

Red Fox

Black Bear & Brown Bear

a VERY friendly woodchuck (or groundhog...whatever)
He kept popping up and running over to the side of the enclosure where we were and "checking us out"
So cute!

Albino Porcupine

Another photo op :)

Peacock....strutting his stuff!

Mel's boys peering into the fish hatchery
and, yes, this is the ONLY picture I have of them!
and yes, I KNOW you cannot see their faces...
they're cute - you'll just have to trust me on that!

The Turtles...all lined up....this was one of our favorites!

My favorite picture of the day...Jack & Iz
They spent most of the day holding hands :)
but I didn't catch it on film :(
We had a GREAT* time...perfect weather, great kids, cool animals!

*We did have a minor incident when Iz scraped her elbow but she got a big bandage and a Dora bandaid and all was well with the world.

One last thing....tomorrow's my birthday!!!

Warm Weather means....

OUTSIDE TUBBY TIME!

This is one of Iz's favorite things so it was very exciting to drag out the tote and let her splash around out on the deck in the nice, warm, bubbly water!

*Iz and I went to the Maine Wildlife Park today with Mel & her boys...
pictures coming soon!

Mom's Day

Happy Mother's Day!
.
to my mom
.
and all the moms out there...
.
now, see a *good* blogger would have a pic of their mom to put up, but noooo, not me -
.
I did try though to get a shot of my mom on Easter,
but she made a miserable face and turned away...
I should post it anyway :)

Gardening 101

I do NOT have a green thumb...I have more like a brown, wilted, dying thumb, so last night I attended night one of a two night "Raised-Bed Garden" class through our local adult ed in hopes that some knowledge would rub off on me since I really want to have a productive garden. I don't want to grow a TON, just enough to enjoy through the summer. It's something Iz and I can do together and we both really enjoy it. However, my garden last year was a colossal failure! I learned a lot last night though and am a little more optimistic about this years "crop."

The best part of the class?....it prodded me into FINALLY planting some seeds, which I have been meaning to do for, oh, about 3 weeks now.

I started pickling cukes, beans, peas, watermelon and pumpkins.

Sometime in the next week or so, I'm going to rebuild my raised bed garden (since it is in a terrible location) and hopefully can grow something :) I also have zucchini, summer squash, spaghetti squash, and more peas/beans that I want to plant...I'll be putting all those in the ground Memorial Day weekend. Plus, buying some tomato plants VERY SOON!

In the meantime, about 2 weeks ago, Iz planted some sunflower and marigold seeds, which are doing GREAT!

Iz's plants
(she has the green -thumb that I don't, I think)

Mother's Day is Sunday....Happy Day to all you Moms out there!

Enjoy the weekend...I know we will :)

Catching Up....

It's been over a week since I posted a "real" post....and it's been busy around here. So....I'll catch you up real quick:

Had to post this one, just for fun!

We had a play date last Tuesday with HC and her boys...it was 95 degrees out, so the sprinkler got dragged out and the kiddos had a ton of fun!

Although, Iz DID pout a little....

...but got over it quickly...

The rest of the week was pretty uneventful, but the weekend was FULL (well, for me, at least).

Saturday, Auntie D and I had *family business* to attend to, so afterwards, we stopped at this little whole in the wall for some dogs!

If you're ever in Southern Maine, I definitely recommend you check 'em out!

YUM!

Sunday, Auntie D and I got together AGAIN (without Iz this time) to go see "Cabaret"...FANTASTIC!

Today Iz and I are off to story time/gymnastics/Auntie D's...plus Jimmy will be here before & after school! Gotta get going!!!

New and (Hopefully) Improved!

Welcome to the new blog :)

What a mess I made of the old one....I tred to change one little thing and *POOF* a bunch of other things had problems and the more I tried to fix it, the worse it got.

Luckily, I had my entries backed up and I have worked very hard the past 2 days reloading pictures and entries to get everything into this new blog - which I will not be making any changes to again!!! (yeah, right!)

I'm going to be posting a few times a week because things are just so darn exciting around here (most of the time!).

So, take a look around....check out the pics....leave a comment....and come back often!

Thanks for stopping by!
