No Such Thing as a Witch

One of the things about cleaning at my parents' house is that I always bring a ton of stuff home with me. It's like a free yard sale :) If I show the least bit of interest in something, my mother tells me to take it home. This also applies to whenever Iz shows interest in something...which means A LOT of stuff has come home with us and is still sitting in a box because Iz has too much stuff as it is.
.
One of the things I brought home recently was a book by Ruth Chew called No Such Thing as a Witch
.
.
It's a children's book that I read several times when I was younger and HAD to bring home to read it again. It's about a couple kids, their silly next door neighbor and her magic fudge.
.
.
There are cute little illustrations, done by the author, scattered throughout the book.
.
.
I Googled Ruth Chew to see if she had any other books and, although I couldn't find an "official" website of any sort, I did find this one. I was surprised to see the long list of books written by Chew and am now on the "hunt" for them. There is a used book store very close to where I grocery shop and I'll be swinging in soon to see if they have any. No Such Thing as a Witch is a cute, easy read with silly magic and lots of fun...I would love for Iz to be able to enjoy it when she is older and, honestly, I'll be reading it again soon myself :)

YUM!

Iz and I made these last night...
.
.
...and brought them to share at story time at the library this morning!
.
.
Believe me - they were a HIT!
.
*I love loading other peoples' kids up with a bunch of sugar and then heading home with my own little one who only ate 1/2 her cookie :)

Waiting...

A couple weeks ago, when we received the flyer for the grocery store it included a Halloween coloring contest page. When I explained to Iz about the contest she dived in with gusto and spent TWO DAYS working on her picture!
.
.
.
The final product :) Didn't you know ghosts are pink?
.
.
Now we're just waiting to see if she won a prize. The stakes are high too...the prize? A $50 gift certificate to ToysRUs!!!

Mmmmm...Pumpkin!

I'm a pumpkin fan. Pie, cookies, muffins, donuts, whoopie pies, soup ... if it's pumpkin-flavored, chances are, I'll love it.
.
Friday we're going to L's graduation from cosmetology school and they're having everyone over for spaghetti dinner afterwards. I figure it's a perfect time for me to try and make this:
.
.
.
I have a trifle bowl from PChef that I've only used twice since trifle's not something you make for a family of 3 :) But I am digging it out this week and can't WAIT to try this!
.
I'll take a picture of mine too - not sure it will be quite as pretty as Paula's but, we'll see :)
.

What Happened?

I'm not sure exactly what happened to me last week. It's not as if I was so busy that I didn't have time to post. Or that there was nothing "port-worthy" happening around here. Or that I was offline or indisposed or just plain old unable to post.
.
It just didn't happen.
.
So, here's a quick rundown of last week:
.
Hubby took Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as vacation days. He golfed Monday and Tuesday (gotta get as much in as possible before the snow flies!!!). Iz and I went to a football game Monday afternoon with Auntie D & Uncle S where we watched J's team win AGAIN!!! This afternoon is their last game and they have the chance to have an undefeated season :) Can't wait!. Tuesday night I went shopping with Mel and picked up a couple things for Christmas (I've already started, haven't you?) and got some time away from the house with a girl that makes me LOL! Wednesday was our usual - story time at the library. Thursday I went down to Nannie & Papa's to help clean...and filled SEVEN trash bags with yarn...yes, I said SEVEN...and yes, I said YARN. And, they were NOT piddly little trash bags - they're Glad Flex super-strength, pack up your whole house inside trash bags and I filled seven of them with yarn. So glad that I'm not my mother who now has to sort through all seven bags, unravel 1/2 done projects, untangle skeins, rewind everything and get it organized. (I'd like to make a promise to myself RIGHT NOW to never let MY yarn stash get that out of control!! Bwah! ha! ha! I'm halfway there already!) Friday Hubby was back at work but called to see if Iz and I wanted to meet him for dinner in the "city" at a place we've been wanting to try but haven't gotten a chance. Iz and I took the opportunity to wander around the mall for a while and lounge around in the bookstore before dinner at T.R.H. which was SO YUM-O!
.
Saturday it poured rain ALL.DAY.LONG which just meant a wet trip to ballet and then we scooted to the library to borrow some new movies to watch since there was no way of going outside. Sunday, however was GORGEOUS! We went down to Nannie and Papa's for breakfast and then back home for some FOOTBALL watching and outside time and getting all kinds of stuff done around the house.
.
WHEW! That's it. You're all caught up. I can't do that again...too much happens here in a week to drop the ball :) This week is shaping up to be just as busy - my camera batteries are charging as I write this. I'll be ready to capture it all on "film."
.
Happy Monday!

Lovin' That Man of Mine

Remember last week when I went to the fair WITHOUT my camera because I had lost it after taking a picture of something Hubby had done?
.
Well, it's time to share that picture.
.
Let's set the stage, shall we?
.
I don't make the coffee...EVER. Hubby makes it every morning and if he's not home I drive to the closest convenience store (10 miles round trip) and buy 2 big cups to bring home and drink at my leisure...um, yeah, Hubby doesn't know that so let's keep it between you and me, ok? OK!
.
Anyway, Hubby gets up in the morning makes the coffee and, when I drag my sorry butt out of bed and to the couch, he brings me a cup. It's very nice. The catch? Hubby has to pull the coffee maker away from the wall in order to fill it and he NEVER pushes it back where it belongs which DRIVES.ME.CRAZY!
.
Not pushing it back where it belongs is minor compared to what he did last week...
.
.
Can you see that? How not only did he not push the coffee maker back to the wall but the glass carafe is precariously perched between the coffee maker and the microwave...YIPE! How he did it and didn't notice, I'll never know. How he did it and didn't make a huge mess, I'll never understand. AND, how he can pull that coffee maker away from the wall and out from under the cabinet and NEVER push it back (like the coffee maker only goes one way!), will forever remain a mystery to me.
.
*sigh* It's a good thing I love him <3

A Pleasant Surprise

I took Iz to the movies yesterday morning. She woke up with a little runny nose but nothing major and the weather was rainy and cold so we bundled up and headed out. Finding Nemo...an "oldie" but a goodie was playing FREE and so we watched the movie and had lunch and cuddled a little and it was a wonderful morning spent with my little one.
.

We got a VERY pleasant surprise when we stopped at Auntie D's on the way home.
.

Look who was visiting!!!
.

.

That was how she looked BEFORE I got there...
.

...this is how she was the entire time I held her.
.

.
So sweet and so cute and so cuddly.
.

PLUS...it was the first time I had seen her outside of the hospital AND in real clothes!!!
.

On a down note - the runny nose Iz had yesterday morning had her up a couple times over the night. She's still sleeping so we'll wait and see what the day brings and how she's feeling. I'm betting that we will not be going to story time today - and it's all about apples...boo! hate to miss that one! - but, instead, will spend the day cuddling and watching movies and reading books. Which is still a good day, as far as I'm concerned.
.

Here's to hoping things are back to normal soon...

Taking a Look Back

While uploading apple picking pictures yesterday, I got to thinking about the past *almost* 4 years with Iz...FOUR YEARS! I can't even believe it! She'll turn 4 in less than 3 months. Here's a quick, fun look back at apple picking "through the years." Simply amazing how much changes in such a short time.

Apples!

After ballet on Saturday we went apple picking...YUM! We ate a ton of apples, and raspberries, picked even more apples and bought a giant brownie on the way out to share. I love apple picking...it's something I look forward to every year and the weather was nice and crisp and fall-like and we had a great time.

Hubby making a new friend...
.
.
Of course, we HAD to taste-test :)

.
and climbing a tree or two is mandatory as well!

Dinner

I had lobster for dinner tonight.
.
Yes, I'm a jerk...I'm rubbing it in a little, but c'mon! it's LOBSTER!
.
Why did I have lobster? Because I have the BEST father-in-law EVER!
.
Hubby had to head up to "The County" yesterday for work. He spent the night up there and headed back this afternoon. Now, for anyone unfamiliar with "The County" well, you're from "Away" and I'm not explaining it to you...you won't understand anyway :) Hubby picked up some potatoes while he was up there....and when I say some, what I mean is a whole heapin' mess of 'em! Like 200 pounds....of potatoes.
.
Luckily, the 200 pounds did not all come back to this house because, although I like potatoes - baked, fried, mashed...whatever - 200 pounds...that is A LOT of potatoes.
.
Instead, Hubby stopped at his parents house on the way home (even though it's really not on the way at all, but who cares - I got LOBSTER!) and my FIL sent Hubby home with 4 Lobstahs - alive and kicking!!!
.
The BEST part? I am the only one in the house who likes lobster so...selfishly, they're MINE! ALL MINE!
.
I cooked them up earlier - ate a bunch....the rest will be stuffed into a roll tomorrow for lunch :) (I'm a poet & I don't even know it!)
.
Yum! Is it time for lunch yet?

It's Been A Few Days

...and I'm sure you need a fix :)
.
.
This is Ellie's "GO PATS" picture...she's a fan already!
(maybe someday I'll explain the bandage on her right arm...but today is not that day)
.
.
I AM the baby whisperer :)
.

.

SnL and Ellie are FINALLY home from the hospital...the way it should be! and I haven't seen them since Saturday....SATURDAY! Almost a week! Yipe! I've got to get MY fix...and SOON!

A Fair...

...is a veritable smorgasbord orgasbord orgasbord..... :) (Charlotte's Web - am I the only on who knows that?)
.
Yesterday Auntie D, Iz and I headed up to the "fay-ah" - the biggest one here in Maine and, let me tell you, we weren't the only ones! With the weather forecasting to rain today and Friday PLUS yesterday was Senior day at the fair....the place was PACKED! For the first time ever we actually had to PAY to park in someones YARD! instead of paying to park in the fair parking lot!
.
We had a great time despite the crowd...checking out the animals, crafts and, of course, the FOOD! We weren't there 15 minutes before ordering fried dough and soon after we HAD to get one of these:
.
.
Yes, that's my 3-year-old eating a bloomin' onion...it's pretty hard to find something she WON'T eat, which makes things SO much easier than a picky child. We also got fish chowdah and Iz had a hot dog. Thanks Iz for being so easy about food (since you're not always so easy about other things!)
.
The funny thing about the fair on Senior day is that the petting zoo was practically deserted :) and we were able to make it in after an extremely short wait in line.
.
.
.
A ride on the carousel, an ice cream and we were outta there!
.
.
Now, you may be wondering about the lack of pictures...well, let me tell you a little story...
.
Yesterday morning I took a picture with my new camera of something unbelievable that Hubby did that I just had to capture on "film" and, naturally, share with the whole Internet (yeah, that's coming, maybe tomorrow). I put my camera back in the brand new case I just bought for it and finished getting ready to go to the fair. A change of clothes for Iz in case of an accident, sweatshirts and drinks and snacks, my ATM card so we could get some cash, a couple books for Iz to read on the way up and we were READY.
.
Except...my camera. I looked around the kitchen for it (which is where I took the Hubby picture) and it was nowhere to be found. I checked the bag I packed, my purse, the van, the bedroom, living room...everywhere. Well, everywhere except where my camera was. I then assumed that Hubby had inadvertently grabbed it on his way out the door thinking it was his camera. Grrrrrrr! Now I was mad! I'd spent 20 minutes looking for my camera and was now heading to the fair without it!!! Grabbed my cell and called Hubby...no answer. Waited 5 minutes and called again...no answer! What the heck! Threw everything in the van (except Iz, she was placed in gently) and headed to go get Auntie D, sans camera.
.
UGH
.
Hubby calls me back about 20 minutes after I leave while I'm pumping gas and says he did not grab my camera. Jeepers! Now I'm really mad. I explain everything to Auntie D and she grabs her camera which is good but isn't shiny and new like mine so I didn't end up using it as much. She emailed the pictures to me and that's that.
.
Have I found my camera you ask?
.
Of course I did. It was in the bathroom. Seriously.
.

Obsessions...Let's List Them, Shall We?

Jeez...I've got problems. I mean SERIOUS problems.
.
In the last 5 days I have developed FOUR new obsessions in my life and I'm beginning to think that I may never be able to leave the house again.
.
Here they are:
.
1. Glee ... one of my FB friends raved about this show and I made the mistake of going to HULU and watching all 5 back episodes...in a 24-hour-period...I now LOVE this show. I thought it would be for the teens but the interaction between the teachers is more than enough to completely capture this 30-something woman and the musical numbers are just a BONUS...check it out. Seriously :)
.
2. The Middle ... Thankfully, only one episode has aired and it's only 1/2 hour show so it only took 25 minutes to get all caught up :) This show is SUPER FUNNY! and probably a whole lot more realistic than most mothers out there would be willing to admit.
.
3. Woman with Kids ... I lurk at a ton of blogs...this is one I happened upon accidentally, read a few recent posts then HAD to go back to when it began in 2006 and start "catching up." I got about 3 months in and realized this blog is written by SOMEONE.I.KNOW. Someone I went to school with, someone who I considered my best friend in 9th grade :) and someone who I haven't seen since we graduated until we met for coffee a couple months ago...Remember (scroll to the last pic)? I can't believe it took me so long to realize it was her but then again she is so funny and witty and sarcastic that I wasn't really thinking at first. I was too busy laughing! Check it out!!!
.
4. Ellie :) Iz and I went to see her Saturday afternoon after ballet class...because I just couldn't wait any longer...I hadn't seen her in TWO WHOLE DAYS!!! I was definitely missing her. So we stopped in for an hour or so of "q-time" with the babe, who is getting bigger and cuter and sweeter every day :)
.
Now, if those were all than I would be okay...but, while I'm being honest, here are some of my other obsessions:
IzzyB :)
Grey's Anatomy
Private Practice
The Biggest Loser
Survivor
Amalah
My Yahoo Knitting Group
The Forgotten
Flash Forward
100 Days of Holidays
Patriots
DD Iced Coffee (which, thankfully, gets me out of the house)
Knitpicks
.
Those are just the ones that popped into my mind...plus books, of course....
.
I'm currently listening to the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini and reading the Temperance Brennan books by Kathy Reichs which the TV show Bones is based on. Plus, Audrey Niffenegger has a new book out that I MUST read...SOON! and it's almost time for me to reread Harry Potter and Twilight...it's been a while, you know?
.
So that's me right now...how about you? Anything good you can pass along that I will immediately become obsessed with??? Because I'm still leaving the house a couple times a week to get iced coffee and fresh air. but that's not necessary, is it?
.

October

I love October. It is BY FAR my favorite month of the year. I love the weather (even though I complain of being chilly), I love dragging my long-sleeve tees, sweaters, long pants, and knitted socks out of storage, I love not sweating all the time, being able to go outside without being swarmed by bugs and the changing of the leaves. Oh and FOOTBALL!!! Go Pats!
.
But, most of all....I LOVE Halloween!!!!
.
Currently, Isabella wants to dress up like a mermaid. Well, TODAY, she wants to dress up like a mermaid. She switches between a mermaid, a fairy, a princess, and a tiger (the tiger doesn't really fit in with her whole mystical creature theme, but hey! she's a quirky kid). This will be her 4th Halloween and every year thus far I have purchased her costume...not because I'm too lazy to make one but because I have found the BEST deals on costumes for her at a great store here in Maine called Mardens :) She has dressed as a Bumblebee, Tinkerbell, and a Flamingo...but this year, well, this year might be the year I make her costume. Yipe!
.
But, before I begin...I'm heading to Mardens this week...who knows? She might see something she wants....and, since I haven't spent more than 8 bucks on a costume so far, it's worth looking since it will be cheaper and easier to BUY! rather than make her costume.
.
In the meantime, I will enjoy the weather, watching the Patriots this weekend and, hopefully, visiting Ellie at some point too!!!
.

Fun! Fun! Fun!

Tuesday morning Mel & the boys took a ride down to the playground with us :) Very fun!

.

Our Sweet Ellie

*this post was written on October 1st but not posted until December 7th. Ellie is FINE :)
Original post follows
.
.
.
Our poor little baby is sick :( It's not terrible, but it's not good either. After story time at the library yesterday Auntie D and I and I headed back into the big city to visit "our baby" again (after all she was TWICE as old as when we saw her on Tuesday afternoon!) and when we walked into the hospital room...no Ellie...and no S...and L's face was all red and blotchy. I knew immediately something was up. L explained that Ellie was in the nursery with the doctor, she has an infection in her lungs and her breathing is just not right.
.

My heart stopped.

.

Sweet Ellie...who has already claimed a huge chunk of my heart that didn't even exist before she joined the world...Sweet Ellie...who's parents' love just SHINES in their eyes and their smiles...Sweet Ellie...my sister's first grandchild, my sister who has already suffered more heartbreak than anyone ever should...

.

Our Sweet Ellie is sick.

.

BUT, she's better today. In 24 hours she has gone from IV antibiotics and a feeding tube to just the IV and being able to nurse again in her Mama's arms. But she's not out of the woods yet. She will be in the hospital for several more days, maybe even a week. We're still waiting for test results and we don't know what those test results will show but the doctors are being proactive instead of reactive and treating her before they're even sure what's wrong.
